Our Ownership & Management Team

Smithtown Ambulatory Surgery Center is a physician-led outpatient facility developed in partnership with Sapient Health Management, a New York–based company specializing in ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs).

Sapient serves as both a minority ownership partner and the center's management company, working alongside our physician owners to oversee daily operations, development, and business management.

This partnership keeps medical decisions in the hands of our physicians while Sapient provides the operational expertise needed to deliver safe, efficient, high-quality outpatient care to patients throughout Smithtown and Long Island.

About Sapient Health Management

Founded in New York in 2014, Sapient Health Management develops, manages, and invests in ambulatory surgery centers, with a focus on gastroenterology and endoscopy.

Unlike large national healthcare chains, Sapient partners with physicians as a minority owner, allowing doctors to maintain clinical leadership while benefiting from experienced operational support.

Joseph Romano

Joseph Romano brings more than 20 years of healthcare industry experience. Before founding Sapient Health Management in 2014, he held leadership roles at United Surgical Partners International and Frontier Healthcare.

At Sapient, Joe focuses on helping physicians develop and operate successful ambulatory surgery centers while maintaining physician leadership and independence.

Bill Ingram

Bill Ingram has more than 20 years of experience in the ambulatory surgery center industry, including center development, operations, and strategic growth.

Working alongside Joe Romano, Bill helps build long-term physician partnerships and supports the development of high-quality outpatient facilities.
