Colonoscopy Prep Instructions

The day before your procedure at 6PM:
1. Open your first bottle of 12 tablets and fill the provided container with 16oz. of water. Swallow each tablet with water and drink the entire amount within 30 minutes.
2. Approximately 1 hour after the last tablet is ingested, fill the provided container a second time with 16oz. of water and drink the entire amount within 30 minutes.
3. Approximately 30 minutes after finishing the second container of water, fill the provided container a third time and drink the entire amount within 30 minutes.
The day of your procedure
1. Open the second bottle of 12 tablets and fill the provided container with 16oz. of water. Swallow each tablet with water and drink the entire amount within 30 minutes.
2. Approximately 1 hour after the last tablet is ingested, fill the provided container a second time with 16oz. of water and drink the entire amount within 30 minutes.
3. Approximately 30 minutes after finishing the second container of water, fill the provided container a third time and drink the entire amount within 30 minutes.
*If patients experience preparation-related symptoms (nausea, cramping, bloating), pause or slow the rate of drinking the additional water until symptoms improve.

1. Use the mixing container to mix the contents of the Dose 1 pouch with at least 16oz. of water by shaking or using a spoon until it is completely dissolved.
2. Drink the entire contents of the mixing container over 30 minutes.
3. Refill the container to the fill line with 16oz of clear fluid and drink over 30 minutes.
The day of your procedure
1. Use the mixing container to mix the contents of Dose 2 (Pouches A and B) with at least 16oz. of water by shaking or using a spoon until it is completely dissolved. Finish the dose within 30 minutes.
2. Refill the container to the fill line with 16oz. of clear fluid and drink over 30 minutes

The day before your procedure at 6PM:
1. Pour one 6oz. bottle of SUPREP liquid into the mixing container.
2. Add cool drinking water to the 16oz. line on the container and mix.
3. Drink ALL of the liquid in the container.
4. Drink 5 additional 8oz. glasses of clear liquids.
Hydrate with an additional 2 glasses of clear liquids between steps 1 and 2
The day of your procedure
1. Pour one 6oz. bottle of SUPREP liquid into the mixing container.
2. Add cool drinking water to the 16oz. line on the container and mix.
3. Drink ALL of the liquid in the container.
4. Drink 5 additional 8oz. glasses of clear liquids.
Hydrate with an additional 2 glasses of clear liquids between steps 1 and 2

You must purchase one (1) 238 gram bottle of MIRALAX, four (4) Bisacodyl Laxative Tablets (5mg each), and one (1) 64 oz. bottle of a NON CARBONATED, DIET, DECAFFINATED Drink (THE FLAVOR CANNOT BE RED). EX: G2, CRYSTAL LIGHT, VITAMIN WATER OR HOME BREWED DECAF TEA (UNSWEETENED)
2 DAYS PRIOR TO THE PROCEDURE EAT LIGHTLY AND DRINK PLENTY. NO SOLID FOOD AFTER 9 PM.
THE DAY BEFORE THE PROCEDURE CLEAR LIQUIDS ONLY all day. Clear liquids include tea, coffee, clear broth, juice, Gatorade, Iced tea, Crystal light), Jello (no red).
NO SOLID FOOD MAY BE EATEN. No milk, No orange juice, (no pulp).
NO RED food coloring.
DRINK PLENTY THROUGHOUT THE DAY
2PM Take all four of the Bisacodyl laxative tablets 4-6 PM, mix the ENTIRE BOTTLE OF MIRALAX into the 64 oz. diet, decaffeinated, non carbonated drink. Make sure all powder has been dissolved. Drink one 8 oz. glass every 10 to 15 minutes until all 64 oz. are finished.
****Cardiac, blood pressure, seizure and asthma medication should not be stopped and may be taken with a small sip of water.****
Colonoscopy Preparation Instructions
Please follow these instructions carefully and NOT the instructions included with your bowel preparation.
Important: Inadequate bowel preparation may result in your procedure being rescheduled.
Medication Instructions
Blood Thinners
If you take blood thinners, please notify our office. You must consult with your prescribing physician regarding whether these medications should be held before your procedure.
Examples include:
Plavix
Eliquis
Aspirin
Brilinta
Coumadin
Other anticoagulants or antiplatelet medications
Diabetes & Weight Loss Injections
If you take injectable medications for diabetes or weight loss, please notify our office. These medications must be stopped at least 8 days before your procedure.
Examples include:
Ozempic
Wegovy
Zepbound
Mounjaro
Semaglutide
Similar injectable medications
If you take oral diabetes medications (Metformin, Jardiance, etc.) or insulin, please consult your primary care physician or endocrinologist for medication instructions prior to your procedure.
Anti-Inflammatories, Vitamins & Supplements
Please stop taking the following 7 days before your procedure:
Ibuprofen
Advil
Motrin
Aleve
Naproxen
Multivitamins
Vitamin E
Herbal supplements
Tylenol (acetaminophen) products are safe to take if needed.
Other Prescription Medications
Do not stop medications for:
Blood pressure
Heart conditions
Thyroid disorders
Cholesterol management
Seizure disorders
These medications may be taken on the morning of your procedure with a small sip of water unless otherwise instructed.
Nothing to Drink
Do not drink anything for a minimum of 3 hours before your scheduled procedure time.
Three Days Before Your Procedure
We recommend taking:
1 capful of MiraLAX daily
Mix 1 capful in 8 ounces of water
Continue this once daily until the day before your bowel preparation begins.
The Day Before Your Procedure
Clear Liquids Only
Do not eat any solid foods.
You may have:
Water
Clear broth
Gatorade
Jell-O
Water-based Italian ice
Tea
Black coffee
Avoid all red-colored liquids and foods.
Bowel Preparation
Dose 1
Take the first dose of your bowel preparation at 6:00 PM the evening before your procedure.
Dose 2
The timing of your second dose depends on your scheduled procedure time.
Your procedure will be performed at Smithtown ASC. A member of our team will contact you prior to your procedure with your arrival time and instructions on when to take Dose 2 of your bowel preparation.
