The physician gently inserts the flexible scope into the rectum to examine the lower colon. The procedure is typically brief and may or may not require sedation depending on the patient’s needs and physician recommendations.

After the Procedure

Most patients can return home shortly after the procedure and resume normal activities the same day unless otherwise instructed.

If polyps or abnormal tissue are identified, small samples may be collected for additional testing.
